科學的飼養管理是養好長毛兔的關鍵。我們蒙陰長毛兔（長毛兔之鄉-蒙陰長毛兔）實踐證明，如果飼養管理不當，即使有和種兔、豐富的飼料、 合適的籠舍，也得不到良好的飼養效果和經濟效益。但是要想養好長毛兔，必須根據長毛兔的習性和行為，在飼養管理過程中，注意以下基本原則：

　　長毛兔生長快，繁殖力強，體內代謝旺盛，加之生產兔毛需要各種營養與代謝過程。所以，飼喂長毛兔的飼料不僅要注意營養物質的數量，還要考慮到質量，要強調飼料的合理搭配，嚴禁用單一飼料飼喂長毛兔。俗話說“若要兔子好，飼喂百樣草”。

　　長毛兔對飼料的選擇比較嚴格，合理調制可明顯提高飼料的適口性和消化率。生產實踐證明，要想養好長毛兔，還必須注意飼草、飼料的品質。做到以下“十不喂”：一不喂霉爛、變質飼料；二不喂帶泥沙、糞污的飼料；三不喂帶雨、露水的青綠飼料；四不喂帶農藥等毒 物污染的飼料；五不喂冰凍飼料；六不喂發芽馬鈴薯和帶黑斑病的甘薯；七不喂未經蒸煮或焙烤的豆類飼料； 八不喂有毒植物；九不喂大量牛皮菜、菠菜等；十不喂大量紫云英等青綠飼料。

　　兔子膽小，一旦受驚或受追捕、轉群等應激因素的影響，就會引起精神不安，食欲減退，甚患病死亡。為保持安靜，保證長毛兔的正常生長和生產，必須注意三點：一是兔舍必須保持安靜；二是為防止疾病傳染， 兔場應謝絕參觀，非兔舍管理人員嚴禁入內；三是籠舍應每天打掃，及時糞便，定期洗刷飼具，，保持衛生。
